Open Shelving

Open shelving has become a very popular trend in the kitchen. Homeowners are opting to forgo upper cabinets to open up wall space for windows and open shelving. While this trend may decrease storage space, it provides a great opportunity to use contrasting shelving materials as an accent or focal point, and it provides a great way to display your favorite glassware and serving pieces. For the project below our client chose rustic wood shelving to complement the limestone countertops and white subway tile walls.

Vintage Vibe

Using vintage elements to accent kitchens and bathrooms continues to be a popular trend as we move into 2019. According to Interior Decorator Patrick Ediger on Elle Decor’s website, “We’ll continue to see traditional elements and forms in harmony with modern design in 2019. Think honed, natural stone, organic basalt tiles, hand wrapped rattan furniture and vintage-inspired fixtures and lighting.” In the project featured below, our client combined vintage style light fixtures and rattan furniture with marble countertops and backsplashes to create a dramatic design.

Single Level Island Countertops

Over the past few years single level kitchen islands have become more popular than multi-level islands. According to Decor Mag’s website, single level islands will continue in popularity because they “don’t block light, increase prep space, and create an unobstructed conversation and dining area.” Waterfall edges remain popular in a variety of materials including Marble, Granite, and Quartz.  Using our Slabsmith software and robotic technology we create smooth seamless waterfall edges, like the one below for a Mountain Brook kitchen remodeling project.

Quartz Countertops

According to Better Homes and Gardens, Quartz Countertops will still be super popular in 2019. “The shimmering surface is less dominant than other materials, so you’re unlikely to grow tired of it. Quartz countertops pair well with both light and dark colored cabinets, making them easy to integrate into any kitchen design.” The Liberty Park home pictured below featured Silestone Quartz throughout the kitchen and bathrooms of the home.

Blue Cabinets

Yes, you read that right, blue cabinets are a thing and according to Better Homes and Garden they will continue to be popular in 2019. Now, we have to admit that blue cabinets are not the right choice for every home, but one of our favorite design projects from 2018 included pairing White Quartz Countertops with Blue Kitchen Cabinets. Pretty stunning, don’t you think?
